S Club at Poly High School - Our club sponsors the S Club at Poly High School in Long Beach, California. It is a service club for high school girls that encourages volunteerism and leadership development.
Women Who Make A Difference Awards - Soroptimist International of Long Beach has been honoring women who advance the status of women since 1981. In 1994, we opened our recognition luncheon to the public and have watched participation grow. Plans for the awards luncheon this year are underway now.
Soroptimist Women in Trades and Technology Center - A recruitment and outreach effort targeting women and girls at Long Beach City College
Shopping with Soroptimists – For women who are entering or re-entering the workforce who need guidance and assistance with wardrobe, hair, and make-up. The Club works with a consignment shop to outfit the women for work. Members donate their clothes to the consignment shop that earns the club credit toward the gifts of appropriate apparel
Gladdes B. Neff Soroptimist Scholarship Fund – Scholarships for students at California State University Long Beach in the last year of study for a degree in a health care field
Meals on Wheels of Long Beach – Meals delivered to elderly & disabled homebound persons
Violet Richardson Award – Cash grants recognizing high school girls who volunteer in their community
Helping Hands – Assists victims of domestic violence
Women's Heart Health Resource Center - Our club made a $25,000 grant to St. Mary's Medical Center to fund the new resource center and provide public awareness and public screenings for heart disease in the community of Long Beach, California. Promotes awareness, early detection, prevention, & follow-up treatment
Breast Cancer Awareness - Promotes awareness, early detection, prevention, & follow-up treatment
Scholarship – Scholarships for students at Long Beach City College; high school students; and Women in Philanthropy
Literacy – Donations of books to local libraries and extended care facilities. More information about our Literacy Project.
